Polymertic Dehumidification Materials - Husorb

Husorb is a polymeric dehumidification meterial developed by Humaster that provides unique and excellent performance and functions. Humaster developed Husorb, a super desiccant polymer (SDP) that greatly enhances dehumidification ability through degree of ionization of super-absorbent polymers. Husorb is patented in South Korea and the United States, and has also won the Patent Technology Award (Patent Office Award No. 9920, ‘14.06).

Dehumidification Function

When Husorb comes into contact with moisture in the air, it becomes ionized, and the electrostatic attraction of the ions attracts and absorbs water molecules. When the ionization of the polymer is promoted, and the functional groups inside the polymer cause ion repulsion, causing expansion. Moisture is absorbed into the expanded space and trapped within the chain structure, causing greater ion repulsion, further promoting expansion and absorbing more water molecules.

Husorb can absorb up to 240% of its dry weight (@ 90% relative humidity).

The absorption by electrostatic attraction is a physical process and is reversible. Husorb can be regenerated by releasing the absorbed water molecules with a little heating.

Maximum absorption capacity

When Husorb absorbs water vapor in the air, it becomes ionized and causes ion repulsion by the functional groups inside the super desiccant polymer. The absorbed water molecules are trapped in the chain structure and expands into an elastic structure to absorb more water molecules. Husorb's moisture retention capacity is up to about 240% of the weight of materials(Husorb) at relative humidity 90%.

The moisture-absorbing Husorb functions an important role in ionizing the polymer and capturing the odor. The ionized polymer inside shows the opposite polarity to the odor molecules, so it is absorbed by attraction. The functional group and odor molecules inside the polymer react chemically and lose the odor function. Therefore, it has an excellent deodorizing function that removes irritating odors, and the deodorizing effect is ammonia (99.8%), trimethylamine (99.6%), and acetic acid (94.0%).

Microorganisms typically contain about 75-85% of their cells in water, and the higher the humidity in their surroundings, the more actively they multiply. However, the reason why Husorb can have antimicrobial activity even in a humid environment is that as Husorb absorbs water, its ionization increases and the surrounding ion concentration increases. Therefore, it causes dehydration of cells due to high osmotic pressure, inhibiting growth.

Antimicrobial activity

Inhibition of microbial growth by chemical factors

High Moisture Absorption Capacity
Water and humidity are key factors that significantly influence microbial growth. The higher the humidity, the more microorganisms proliferate, as 75–85% of their composition consists of moisture.
01
Lonization Upon Absorbing Water
Husorb products enhance their ionization capacity based on the amount of absorbed moisture, which plays a key role in inhibiting microbial growth.
02
Creates High Osmotic Pressure
The high concentration of ionization increases osmotic pressure, leading to moisture loss and transforming the environment into one that is unfavorable for microbial growth.
03
Outstanding Stability
These three key characteristics—based on chemical polarity and degree of ionization—are the foundation of a continuously developed technology that offers an exceptionally high level of stability.
04
Long-Term Use Without Evaporation
Husorb products have a high moisture absorption capacity, capable of absorbing up to approximately 240% of their own weight in water. This reduces inconvenience during use and effectively extends the product’s lifespan.
