Six Deep-Tech Startups Selected for the ‘2024 Korea Innovation Startup Awards’
On the 11th, six companies were selected for the 2024 Korea Innovation Startup Awards, an initiative aimed at discovering deep-tech startups that elevate Korea’s innovation startup ecosystem. The awards, jointly organized by Seoul National University, KAIST, and JoongAng Holdings, were established to encourage startups armed with innovative technologies and ideas to become future growth engines driving the Korean economy.
Now in its third year since its launch in 2022, this year’s awardees include Standard Energy Co., Ltd., a developer of eco-friendly energy storage systems (ESS), and MetisX, an intelligent memory solutions startup. Standard Energy received the Minister of Science and ICT Award. The awards ceremony will take place on the 11th at Seoul National University during the International Symposium on Innovation Startup Nation Korea 2024.
Standard Energy, which won the Minister’s Award, is recognized for developing innovative ESS technologies that are leading the eco-friendly energy industry. The company has developed vanadium ion batteries, emerging as next-generation batteries in the ESS market. With strengths in high energy efficiency, battery lifespan stability, and recyclability, it is expanding its global market presence.
MetisX is a startup developing semiconductors and solutions specialized for large-scale data processing, based on the CXL (Compute Express Link) standard technology. Last month, at the Future of Memory and Storage event held in Silicon Valley, California, MetisX was named the most innovative memory startup.
The KAIST President’s Award went to KoBioLabs, Inc., which provides innovative microbiome-based bio solutions. As a faculty-founded startup from Seoul National University, it continues to pioneer a new paradigm in biotech through ongoing R&D, including the development of new probiotics products.
The Seoul National University President’s Award was presented to Perigee Aerospace, a space launch vehicle startup founded by KAIST alumni. The company has conducted domestic test flights of its independently developed launch vehicle and is working to expand into overseas markets through partnerships with Sweden’s state-owned space company and the Philippine Space Agency.
The JoongAng Holdings Chairman’s Award went to Algenomics Co., Ltd., a bio startup developing personalized therapies using gene-editing technology, thereby advancing biotechnology and opening new frontiers in drug development.
MediInTech, which won the National Research Council of Science & Technology Chairman’s Award, provides medical imaging analysis and diagnostic support solutions that drive digital transformation in healthcare. With its innovative AI-based medical technology, the company enhances diagnostic efficiency in hospitals and contributes to the advancement of cutting-edge medical technology.
At the symposium, the six award-winning companies, along with deep-tech startups from KAIST and Seoul National University, will showcase a variety of innovative technologies.
