Humaster Selected as Baby Unicorn Company

Humaster (CEO Dae-Young Lee) has been selected as a “Baby Unicorn”, a designation given to Korea’s most promising SMEs with the potential to become national unicorn companies.

Humaster specializes in indoor air quality management solutions based on desiccant technology. The company developed Humicon, a next-generation HVAC system that provides dehumidification, cooling, ventilation, and sterilization, ensuring comfort and health for occupants. The innovation has been recognized with the New Excellent Technology (NET) Certification by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and designated as an Innovative Product by the Korean Intellectual Property Office.

The Baby Unicorn Program, led by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, identifies and nurtures high-potential startups with verified innovative business models and growth potential, aiming to foster companies with valuations exceeding KRW 100 billion. Since its launch, 100 companies have been selected (40 in 2020 and 60 in 2021), achieving remarkable results, including 91.4% job growth and 149.6% sales growth.

This year, 60 companies were chosen from 284 applicants, with a competitive ratio of 4.7:1. The selected companies average 5.1 years in operation, KRW 4.64 billion in sales, and 35.9 employees, with 46.9% rated AA or higher in technology and business evaluations. The average investment raised among them is KRW 3.82 billion.

As a Baby Unicorn, Humaster will receive up to KRW 300 million in market development funding, along with additional benefits including up to KRW 5 billion in special guarantees, KRW 10 billion in policy financing, and priority consideration for government R&D programs.

This year, the program will expand its support to include overseas market entry, broadcasting and advertising assistance, youth hiring incentives, and ESG management adoption support, further strengthening growth opportunities for selected companies.
