Humaster Won Grand Prize at the 8th Future Creation Management Excellent Company Awards

Humaster’s ‘Humicon’ Wins Grand Prize in Technology Innovation at the 2020 8th Future Creative Management Excellence Awards

Humaster’s Humicon was awarded the Grand Prize in the Technology Innovation category at the 2020 8th Future Creative Management Excellence Awards hosted by Money Today.

Founded as a research-based startup leveraging technology from the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), Humaster (CEO Lee Dae-young) previously had its Humicon technology recognized as one of the Top 10 Mechanical Technologies of the Year in 2018.

Humicon—a blend of Humidity and Conditioner—is an air conditioning technology that regulates humidity instead of temperature. At its core lies HuSheet, a polymer desiccant material developed by KIST. HuSheet’s dehumidification performance is more than five times greater than silica gel, while also excelling in deodorization, antibacterial, and antifungal functions.

The greatest advantage of Humicon is its ability to remove humidity while maintaining the same temperature. Broadcaster Hong Seok-cheon even installed the system in his Itaewon restaurant “My Chelsea.”

Humicon works by passing cooled air from a heat pump through a moisture filter made of HuSheet, which dehumidifies the air. The heat pump’s condenser array then regenerates the filter, enabling continuous operation. Thanks to its energy recovery method, the system achieves high dehumidification efficiency with minimal energy use.

CEO Lee explained:
“When humidity is high, sweat doesn’t evaporate, leading to a hot and sticky discomfort. It also causes condensation and mold indoors, which can damage interior finishes, result in material losses, and negatively impact health. On tropical nights, simply lowering humidity through dehumidification alone can create a much more comfortable and healthy environment.”

Furthermore, research has shown that the survival of the coronavirus is closely related to humidity levels, highlighting the importance of humidity management in reducing its spread. Certified testing showed Humicon reduced airborne bacteria by 99.9% and airborne viruses by 98.7%.

“Our goal is to become the world’s leading humidity conditioning company, pioneering the future of air conditioning technology by providing both optimal environments and energy performance.”
